حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجٌ وَيُونُسُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ اللَّيْثِيِّ قَالَ
قَدِمْنَا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ شَبَبَةٌ قَالَ: فَأَقَمْنَا عِنْدَهُ نَحْوًا مِنْ عِشْرِينَ لَيْلَةً، فَقَالَ لَنَا: لَوْ رَجَعْتُمْ إِلَى بِلَادِكُمْ - وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ رَحِيمًا - فَعَلَّمْتُمُوهُمْ قَالَ سُرَيْجٌ: وَأَمَرْتُمُوهُمْ - أَنْ يُصَلُّوا صَلَاةَ كَذَا فِي حِينِ كَذَا قَالَ يُونُسُ: وَمُرُوهُمْ فَلْيُصَلُّوا صَلَاةَ كَذَا فِي حِينِ كَذَا وَصَلَاةَ كَذَا فِي حِينِ كَذَا، فَإِذَا حَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَلْيُؤَذِّنْ لَكُمْ أَحَدُكُمْ، وَلْيَؤُمَّكُمْ أَكْبَرُكُمْ.

✧ We came to the Prophet ﷺ as young men. He said: So we stayed with him for about twenty nights. He said to us: If only you would return to your lands—and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was merciful—and teach them. Suraij said: And command them—to pray such-and-such prayer at such-and-such time. Yunus said: And command them to pray such-and-such prayer at such-and-such time and such-and-such prayer at such-and-such time. When the prayer becomes due, let one of you call the adhan for you, and let the eldest of you lead you.
