حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكَرَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ
أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ وَمِيكَائِيلُ [عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلَامُ] فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ [عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ]: اقْرَأِ الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى حَرْفٍ وَاحِدٍ. فَقَالَ مِيكَائِيلُ: اسْتَزِدْهُ. قَالَ: اقْرَأْهُ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ كُلُّهَا شَافٍ كَافٍ مَا لَمْ تَخْتِمْ آيَةَ رَحْمَةٍ بِعَذَابٍ، أَوْ آيَةَ عَذَابٍ بِرَحْمَةٍ.

✧ Jibril and Mika'il (peace be upon them both) came to me. Jibril ﷺ said: Recite the Quran in one harf. Mika'il said: Ask for more. He said: Recite it in seven harfs, all of them sufficient and healing, as long as you do not end a verse of mercy with punishment, or a verse of punishment with mercy.
