✧ There was a servant among the servants of God, to whom God [Blessed and Exalted] gave wealth and children. He did not profess any religion to God [Mighty and Majestic]. Yazid said: He remained until one lifetime passed and another remained. Then he remembered, and he knew that he had not stored up any good with God [Blessed and Exalted]. He called his sons and said: 'O my sons, what kind of father do you know me to be?' They said: 'The best, O our father.' He said: 'By God, I will not leave with any man among you wealth that is from me except that I take it from him, or you must do what I command you.' He said: He took a covenant from them, and said: 'If not, then when I die, take me and throw me into the fire until I become charcoal, then crush me.' He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said, motioning with his hand on his thigh, as if saying: 'Grind me.' 'Then scatter me in the wind, perhaps I will elude God [Blessed and Exalted]!' He said: And by the Lord of Muhammad, that was done to him when he died. He said: Then he was brought in the best form he had ever been, and presented to his Lord [Blessed and Exalted]. He said: 'What made you face the fire?' He said: 'Fear of You, O my Lord.' He said: 'I certainly hear the fearful one.' Yazid said: 'I hear you as a fearful one.' So he was forgiven. Bahz said: I narrated this hadith to al-Hasan and Qatadah, and they narrated it to me: 'So he was forgiven,' or 'God [Mighty and Majestic] turned to him in mercy.'
