✧ Julaybib was from the Ansar. When one of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ had an unmarried woman, he would not marry her off until he knew whether the Prophet ﷺ had any need for her. One day the Messenger of God ﷺ said to a man of the Ansar: Marry your daughter to me. He said: Yes, and a blessing to the eye. He said to him: I do not want her for myself. He said: For whom then? He said: For Julaybib. He said: Until I consult her mother. He went to her and said: The Messenger of God ﷺ is asking for your daughter's hand. She said: Yes, and a blessing to the eye. Marry her to the Messenger of God ﷺ. He said: He does not want her for himself. She said: For whom then? He said: For Julaybib. She said: How awful! Julaybib? Indeed? Twice. No, by the life of God, I will not marry Julaybib. He said: When her father arose to go to the Prophet ﷺ, the young woman said to her mother from behind her curtain: Who has asked for my hand from you two? She said: The Prophet ﷺ. She said: Will you refuse the Prophet ﷺ his request? Give me to the Prophet ﷺ, for he will not waste me. Her father came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: She is yours to dispose of. So he married her to Julaybib. While the Prophet ﷺ was on one of his expeditions, and God, blessed and exalted, granted him spoils, the Messenger of God ﷺ said: Do you miss anyone? They said: We miss so-and-so and so-and-so. The Prophet ﷺ said: But I miss Julaybib. Look for him among the slain. They looked for him and found him beside seven whom he had killed, then they killed him. He said: The Prophet ﷺ stood and said: He killed seven, then they killed him. This one is from me and I am from him. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ carried him on his own forearms; he had no bier other than the forearms of the Messenger of God ﷺ until a grave was dug for him. Then he placed him in his niche, and he did not mention washing.
