حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ يَزِيدَ بْنَ خُمَيْرٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍعَنِ ابْنِ السِّمْطِ

أَنَّهُ أَتَى أَرْضًا يُقَالُ لَهَا: دُومِينُ مِنْ حِمْصَ عَلَى رَأْسِ ثَمَانِيَةَ عَشَرَ مِيلًا، فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: أَتُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ ؟ فَقَالَ: رَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ: إِنَّمَا أَفْعَلُ كَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، أَوْ قَالَ: فَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ.

✧ He came to a land called Dumin, from Hims, at a distance of eighteen miles, and prayed two rak'ahs. I said to him: Do you pray two rak'ahs? He said: I saw Umar b. al-Khattab at Dhu al-Hulayfah praying two rak'ahs, so I asked him, and he said: I only do as I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do, or he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did.

    رواه شعبة واختلف عنه فرواه بقية عن شعبة عن الضحاك بن حمرة عن حبيب بن عبيد عن جبير بن نفير عن ابن السمط عن عمر وخالفه أصحاب شعبة غندر وعبيد بن سعيد القرشي وعاصم بن علي وأبو داود فرووه عن شعبة عن يزيد بن خمير عن حبيب بن عبيد بهذا الإسناد وهو الصواب

    machine translationShuʿbah narrated it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Baqiyyah narrated it from Shuʿbah, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk b. Ḥumrah, from Ḥabīb b. ʿUbayd, from Jubayr b. Nufayr, from Ibn al-Simṭ, from ʿUmar. The companions of Shuʿbah (Ghundar, ʿUbayd b. Saʿīd al-Qurashī, ʿĀṣim b. ʿAlī and Abū Dāwūd) contradicted him and narrated it from Shuʿbah, from Yazīd b. Khumayr, from Ḥabīb b. ʿUbayd with this chain, and that is the correct (ṣawāb) version.
