✧ And a questioner came to him asking about the times of prayer, and he did not answer him anything. So he commanded Bilāl, and he called the iqāmah for Fajr when dawn broke while people could hardly recognize one another. Then he commanded him, and he called the iqāmah for Ẓuhr when the sun declined, while one saying would say, 'The day has reached midday or not yet,' though he was more knowledgeable than them. Then he commanded him, and he called the iqāmah for ʿAṣr while the sun was high. Then he commanded him, and he called the iqāmah for Maghrib when the sun had set. Then he commanded him, and he called the iqāmah for ʿIshāʾ when the twilight had disappeared. Then he delayed Fajr the next day until he finished it while one saying would say, 'The sun has risen or nearly risen.' And he delayed Ẓuhr until it was close to the time of ʿAṣr of the previous day. Then he delayed ʿAṣr until he finished it while one saying would say, 'The sun has turned red.' Then he delayed Maghrib until it was near the setting of the twilight. And he delayed ʿIshāʾ until the first third of the night had passed. Then he called the questioner and said, 'The time is between these two.'
