✧ We went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during one of his journeys. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a night stop with us. I awoke during part of the night at the resting place of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ looking for him, but I did not find him. I went out into the open looking for him, and there was a man from the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ looking for the same thing I was looking for. While we were thus, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came toward us. We said, “O Messenger of Allah, you are in a land of war, and we do not feel safe for you. Why, when you felt a need, did you not tell one of your Companions to stand with you?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “I heard a whirring like the whirring of a mill, or a humming like the humming of bees, and a messenger from my Lord, Mighty and Majestic, came to me and gave me the choice between a third of my community entering Paradise and interceding for them. I chose my intercession for them, and I knew it would be more encompassing for them. Then He gave me the choice between half of my community entering Paradise and my intercession for them. I chose my intercession for them, and I knew it would be more encompassing for them.” The two said, “O Messenger of Allah, supplicate Allah, Exalted is He, to make us among the people of your intercession.” He supplicated for them. Then they woke the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed them of what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said. They began coming to him, saying, “O Messenger of Allah, supplicate Allah, Exalted is He, to make us among the people of your intercession,” and he would supplicate for them. When the people crowded around him and became many, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “It is for whoever dies while testifying that there is no god but Allah.”

machine translationIts narrators are the narrators of the Ṣaḥīḥ, except ʿĀṣim b. Abī al-Najūd, who has been declared trustworthy (wuththiqa), though there is some weakness in him. Al-Bazzār narrated it in abridged form. However, Abū al-Malīḥ and Abū Burdah did not meet Muʿādh b. Jabal.
