✧ I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was at ʿUkāẓ, and I said: Who has followed you in this matter? He said: A free man and a slave—and with him were Abū Bakr and Bilāl ؓ. He said to me: Go back until Allah, Mighty and Majestic, makes a way for His Messenger. So I came to him later and said: O Messenger of Allah, may Allah make me your ransom. Teach me something you know and I do not know, that will not harm you and by which Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will benefit me. Is there an hour more virtuous than another hour? And is there an hour to be avoided? He said: You have asked me about something no one before you asked me. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, descends in the depth of the night and forgives except what involves shirk and transgression. Prayer is witnessed and attended. So pray until the sun rises; when it rises, refrain from prayer, for it rises between the two horns of a devil, and that is the prayer of the disbelievers, until it is high. When the sun is established, pray, for prayer is attended and witnessed until the day is even. When the day becomes even, refrain from prayer, for it is an hour in which Hell is stoked until the shadow declines. When the shadow declines, pray, for prayer is attended and witnessed until the sun inclines to setting. When it inclines, refrain from prayer until the sun sets, for it sets between the two horns of a devil, and that is the prayer of the disbelievers.

machine translationA sound (ṣaḥīḥ) hadith, and its routes are many, good (ḥasan) ones from the Levant, except that his words in this hadith, "then the prayer is witnessed and attended until the sun sets," have been contradicted by others in this hadith, who said, "then the prayer is witnessed and accepted until the ʿAṣr prayer is prayed," and this is closer to the transmitted Sunnah reports on that matter.
