حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ حَدَّثَنَا نُوحُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ الْحُدَّانِيِّ عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَبَسَةَ قَالَ

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ يَدَّعِمُ عَلَى عَصًا لَهُ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ لِي غَدَرَاتٍ وَفَجَرَاتٍ، فَهَلْ يُغْفَرُ لِي ؟ قَالَ: أَلَسْتَ تَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ ؟ قَالَ: بَلَى، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ. قَالَ: قَدْ غُفِرَ لَكَ غَدَرَاتُكَ وَفَجَرَاتُكَ

Translation

✧ An old man came to the Prophet ﷺ leaning on a staff and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have treacheries and wicked deeds. Will I be forgiven?' He said: 'Do you not testify that there is no god but Allah?' He said: 'Yes, and I testify that you are the Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Your treacheries and wicked deeds have been forgiven.'
