✧ ʿAlī ؓ was in Yemen when a woman was brought to him who had been had intercourse with by three men during a single period of purity. He asked two of them: “Do you both acknowledge this child as belonging to this man?” They did not acknowledge it. Then he asked two others: “Do you both acknowledge this child as belonging to this man?” They did not acknowledge it. Then he asked two more until he had finished, asking two by two about one man, and they did not acknowledge it. Then he cast lots among them and attached the child to the one upon whom the lot fell, and imposed on him two-thirds of the blood money. That was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and he laughed until his molars showed.
