✧ Abdullah b. Shaddad and Abu Burdah disagreed about the salaf, so they sent me to Abdullah b. Abi Awfa and I asked him. He said: 'We used to give salaf during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr, and Umar ؓ in wheat, barley, raisins, or dates – he was unsure about the dates and raisins – and what was with them, or what we considered to be with them.' Then I went to Abd al-Rahman b. Abza and he said the same.
