✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up when the delegation of Hawazin came to him as Muslims, and they asked him to return their wealth and their captives. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them: 'With me are those whom you see, and the most beloved speech to me is the most truthful of it. So choose one of the two groups: either the captives or the wealth. I have waited for you.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had given them respite for some ten and odd nights when he returned from Ta'if. When it became clear to them that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not return to them except one of the two groups, they said: 'We choose our captives.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among the Muslims, praised Allah, Mighty and Majestic, as He deserves, then said: 'To proceed: your brothers have come repentant, and I have decided to return their captives to them. Whoever of you wishes to make that agreeable, let him do so, and whoever of you wishes to keep his share until we give him its equivalent from the first of what Allah, Mighty and Majestic, grants us as booty, let him do so.' The people said: 'We have made that agreeable for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them: 'We do not know who among you has given permission and who has not, so go back until your leaders convey your decision to us.' The people went back, and their leaders spoke with them, then they returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him that they had made it agreeable and given permission.
