حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ، قَالَ:

رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَنْقُلُ مِنْ تُرَابِ الْخَنْدَقِ حَتَّى وَارَى التُّرَابُ جِلْدَ بَطْنِهِ، وَهُوَ يَرْتَجِزُ بِكَلِمَةِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ رَوَاحَةَ: اللَّهُمَّ لَوْلَا أَنْتَ مَا اهْتَدَيْنَا وَلَا تَصَدَّقْنَا وَلَا صَلَّيْنَا فَأَنْزِلَنْ سَكِينَةً عَلَيْنَا وَثَبِّتِ الْأَقْدَامَ إِنْ لَاقَيْنَا إِنَّ الْأُلَى قَدْ بَغَوْا عَلَيْنَا وَإِنْ أَرَادُوا فِتْنَةً أَبَيْنَا.

Translation

✧ I saw the Prophet ﷺ carrying earth from the trench until the earth covered the skin of his belly, while he recited verses by ʿAbd Allāh b. Rawāḥah: O God, had it not been for You, we would not have been guided, nor given charity, nor prayed. So send down tranquility upon us and make our feet firm when we meet. Indeed those people have transgressed against us, and if they intend discord, we refuse.
