✧ al-Nu'man bin Bashir on the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ وَأَبُو الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ قَالَ

رُفِعَ إِلَى النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ رَجُلٌ أَحَلَّتْ لَهُ امْرَأَتُهُ جَارِيَتَهَا فَقَالَ: لَأَقْضِيَنَّ فِيهَا بِقَضِيَّةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لَئِنْ كَانَتْ أَحَلَّتْهَا لَهُ لَأَجْلِدَنَّهُ مِائَةَ جَلْدَةٍ، وَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ أَحَلَّتْهَا لَهُ لَأَرْجُمَنَّهُ. قَالَ: فَوَجَدَهَا قَدْ أَحَلَّتْهَا لَهُ فَجَلَدَهُ مِائَةً

Translation

✧ A man was brought to al-Nu'man b. Bashir whose wife had made her slave girl lawful to him. He said: “I will surely judge in this matter with the judgment of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. If she made her lawful to him, I will surely flog him one hundred lashes; and if she did not make her lawful to him, I will surely stone him.” He said: He found that she had made her lawful to him, so he flogged him one hundred.
