✧ al-Nu'man bin Bashir on the Prophet ﷺ

قَالَ وَسَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَقُولُ
إِنَّ أَبِي بَشِيرًا وَهَبَ لِي هِبَةً، فَقَالَتْ أُمِّي: أَشْهِدْ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ. فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِي فَانْطَلَقَ بِي حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ أُمَّ هَذَا الْغُلَامِ سَأَلَتْنِي أَنْ أَهَبَ لَهُ هِبَةً فَوَهَبْتُهَا لَهُ، فَقَالَتْ: أَشْهِدْ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَأَتَيْتُكَ لِأُشْهِدَكَ. فَقَالَ: رُوَيْدَكَ أَلَكَ وَلَدٌ غَيْرُهُ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ. قَالَ: كُلَّهُمْ أَعْطَيْتَهُ كَمَا أَعْطَيْتَهُ ؟ قَالَ: لَا. قَالَ: فَلَا تُشْهِدْنِي إِذًا، إِنِّي لَا أَشْهَدُ عَلَى جَوْرٍ، إِنَّ لِبَنِيكَ عَلَيْكَ مِنَ الْحَقِّ أَنْ تَعْدِلَ بَيْنَهُمْ
Translation

✧ My father Bashir gave me a gift. My mother said, 'Call the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as a witness to it.' He took me by the hand and went with me until we came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, the mother of this boy asked me to give him a gift, so I gave it to him. She said, "Call the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as a witness to it." So I came to you to call you as a witness.' He said, 'Slow down. Do you have a child other than him?' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Did you give all of them the same as you gave him?' He said, 'No.' He said, 'Then do not call me as a witness. I do not testify to injustice. Your children have a right over you that you treat them justly.'
