حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ حِمَارٍ

الْمُسْتَبَّانِ مَا قَالَا عَلَى الْبَادِئِ مَا لَمْ يَعْتَدِ الْمَظْلُومُ، وَالْمُسْتَبَّانِ شَيْطَانَانِ يَتَكَاذَبَانِ وَيَتَهَاتَرَانِ.

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. ʿAbd al-Ṣamad
  2. Hammām
  3. Qatādah
  4. Yazīd b. ʿAbdullāh
  5. ʿIyāḍ b. Ḥimār

When two persons indulge in hurling (abuses) upon one another, it would be the first one who would be the sinner so long as the oppressed does not transgress the limits. (Using translation from Muslim 2587)
