Translation

✧ He said: “I stayed behind with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the expedition of Tabūk. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went aside to relieve himself, then returned to me, and I had the water vessel.” He said: “I poured water over the hands of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then he sniffed water into his nose.” Yaʿqūb said: “Then he rinsed his mouth, then washed his face three times. Then he wanted to wash his hands before taking them out of the sleeves of his jubbah, but its sleeves were too tight, so he took his hand out of the jubbah and washed his right hand three times and his left hand three times, then wiped over his leather socks and did not remove them. Then he went to the people and found that they had put ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf forward to lead them in prayer. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ caught one of the two rakʿahs and prayed the last rakʿah with the people following the prayer of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān. When ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said the taslīm, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up to complete his prayer. This alarmed the Muslims, and they glorified Allah excessively. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his prayer, he turned to them and said: “You have done well and acted correctly,” commending them for praying the prayer at its proper time.”
