✧ We were encamped with Muʿāwiyah after the killing of ʿUthmān, when Kaʿb b. Murrah al-Bahzī stood and said: Were it not for something I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I would not have stood in this station. When he mentioned the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the people sat down. He said: While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān passed by, having combed his hair, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “A tribulation will surely emerge from beneath the feet of this man—or from between his legs—this man and his followers will be upon guidance on that day.” Ibn Ḥawālah al-Azdī stood from near the pulpit and said: Are you the one who heard this? He said: Yes. He said: By Allah, I was present at that gathering, and had I known that there was anyone in the army who would believe me, I would have been the first to speak of it.
