✧ Uthman b. Abi al-Aas narrates from the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ أَنَّ مُطَرِّفًا رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ حَدَّثَهُ

أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ الثَّقَفِيَّ دَعَا لَهُ بِلَبَنٍ لِيَسْقِيَهُ، قَالَ مُطَرِّفٌ: إِنِّي صَائِمٌ، فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: « الصِّيَامُ جُنَّةٌ مِنَ النَّارِ، كَجُنَّةِ أَحَدِكُمْ مِنَ الْقِتَالِ ».

✧ ʿUthmān b. Abī al-ʿĀṣ al-Thaqafī called for milk to offer him a drink. Muṭarrif said: I am fasting. ʿUthmān said: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: “Fasting is a shield from the Fire, like the shield of one of you in battle.”
