Amr b. al-As from the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي الْحَكَمُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ذَكْوَانَ أَبَا صَالِحٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ مَوْلًى لِعَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ

أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ أَرْسَلَهُ إِلَى عَلِيٍّ يَسْتَأْذِنُهُ عَلَى امْرَأَتِهِ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ، فَأَذِنَ لَهُ، فَتَكَلَّمَا فِي حَاجَةٍ، فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ سَأَلَهُ الْمَوْلَى عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ عَمْرٌو: نَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَسْتَأْذِنَ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ أَزْوَاجِهِنَّ.

✧ Amr b. al-As sent him to Ali to ask permission on behalf of his wife, Asma bt. Umays. He permitted him, and they spoke about a need. When he left, the client asked him about that, and Amr said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us to ask permission to enter upon women except with the permission of their husbands.
