✧ Ya'ala bin Mura Althaqafi on the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي اللَّيْثِ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَشْجَعِيُّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ يَعْلَى بْنِ مُرَّةَ الثَّقَفِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ

أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ رَجُلٌ عَلَيْهِ خَاتَمٌ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ عَظِيمٌ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: « أَتُزَكِّي هَذَا؟ » فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَمَا زَكَاةُ هَذَا؟! فَلَمَّا أَدْبَرَ الرَّجُلُ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: « جَمْرَةٌ عَظِيمَةٌ عَلَيْهِ

Translation

✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ wearing a large gold ring. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: “Do you give zakat on this?” He said: O Messenger of God, what is the zakat on this? When the man turned away, the Messenger of God ﷺ said: “A great ember on him.”
