✧ I heard Maslama b. Mukhallad, while he was seated on the pulpit addressing the people, saying: O people, do you not have in ʿaṣb and linen what suffices you instead of silk? And here is a man among you who will inform you from the Messenger of God ﷺ. Stand, O ʿUqba. So ʿUqba b. ʿĀmir stood while I was listening, and said: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his seat in the Fire. And I bear witness that I heard him say: Whoever wears silk in this world will be deprived of wearing it in the Hereafter.
