✧ That 'Abd Allah b. Sahl and Muhayyisa b. Mas'ud went to Khaybar on some errand of theirs, and they separated. 'Abd Allah b. Sahl was killed, and they found him slain. He said: Then Muhayyisa and Huwayyisa, the two sons of Mas'ud, came, and 'Abd al-Rahman b. Sahl, the brother of the slain man, came—and he was the youngest of them—so they went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He spoke, and the one who was most entitled to the blood [claim] began. These two were older, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Let the eldest speak first." He said: So the two of them spoke about the matter of their companion. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Establish your claim for your companion—or your slain—with fifty oaths from among you." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, it is a matter we did not witness, so how can we swear?" He said: "Then the Jews will absolve themselves with fifty oaths from among them." They said: "They are a disbelieving people." He said: So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid his blood money from his own side. He said: Then I entered a pen of theirs, and a she-camel from those camels with which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid the blood money kicked me with her foot, one kick.
