✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ at Dhū al-Ḥulayfah in Tihāmah, and we captured sheep and camels. He said: The people hurried and boiled them in pots. The Prophet ﷺ came and ordered that they be overturned. Then he said: Ten sheep are equal to one camel. Then a camel bolted, and the people had only a few horses. A man shot it with an arrow and stopped it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: These animals have wild-like tendencies like wild animals. If any of them overcomes you, do this with it. He said: Rāfiʿ b. Khadīj said: We hope—or we fear—that we will meet the enemy tomorrow, and we have no knives. Can we slaughter with reeds? He said: Hasten or wait; whatever makes the blood flow and the name of Allah is mentioned over it, then eat, except the tooth and the nail. I will tell you about that: as for the tooth, it is bone; and as for the nail, it is the knife of the Abyssinians.
