✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he looked at me up and down, then said, 'Are you an owner of camels or an owner of sheep?' He said, 'God has given me of each, abundantly and generously.' He said, 'You raise them with sound eyes and ears, then you slit the ears of these and call them Ṣuram, then Sufyan said something I did not understand, and you say, "God's Baḥīrah." But God's aid is stronger, and His razor is sharper. If He willed to bring them to you with slit ears, He would have.' I said, 'To what do you call?' He said, 'To God and to kinship ties.' I said, 'A man from my cousins comes to me, and I swear I will not give him, then I give him.' He said, 'Then expiate your oath, and do what is better. Do you see, if you had two slaves, one who obeys you, does not betray you, and does not lie to you, and the other who betrays you and lies to you?' He said, 'I said: No, rather the one who does not betray me or lie to me, but tells me the truth, is more beloved to me.' He said, 'Such are you in the sight of your Lord, Mighty and Majestic.'
