✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition, and one night we came to a high place and spent the night there. Severe cold afflicted us, until I saw someone digging a hole in the ground, entering it, and throwing the shield over himself. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw that from the people, he called out: “Who will guard us tonight, and I will supplicate for him with a supplication that will contain excellence?” A man from the Ansar said: “I will, O Messenger of Allah.” He said: “Come closer.” He came closer, and he said: “Who are you?” The Ansari gave his name. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began the supplication and made it lengthy. Abu Rayhanah said: When I heard what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated with, I said: “I am another man.” He said: “Come closer.” I came closer, and he said: “Who are you?” I said: “I am Abu Rayhanah.” He supplicated with a supplication that was less than what he supplicated for the Ansari. Then he said: “The Fire is forbidden for an eye that weeps — or cries — from fear of Allah, and the Fire is forbidden for an eye that stays awake in the path of Allah.” And he said: “The Fire is forbidden for another, third eye,” which Muhammad b. Sumayr did not hear.
