✧ Shaddād b. Aws was on a journey and stopped at a place. He said to his servant: “Bring us the travel food so we may toy with it.” I disapproved of that from him, so he said: “I have not spoken a word since I became Muslim without bridling and reining it, except this word of mine. Do not hold it against me, but preserve from me what I tell you: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘When people hoard gold and silver, hoard these words: O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in the matter and resolve upon right guidance, and I ask You for gratitude for Your blessings, and I ask You for excellence in worshipping You, and I ask You for a sound heart, and I ask You for a truthful tongue, and I ask You for the good of what You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, and I ask Your forgiveness for what You know; indeed You are the Knower of the unseen.’”
