✧ Mu'awiya was marching in the land of the Romans, and there was a truce period between them and him. He wanted to draw near to them so that when the truce period ended he would raid them. Then [they saw] an old man on a mount saying: 'Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar! Fulfillment, not treachery! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Whoever has a treaty with a people, let him not loosen a knot nor tighten it until its term ends, or he should throw it back to them on equal terms.' This reached Mu'awiya, so he turned back, and the old man was 'Amr b. 'Abasa.
