✧ He mentioned someone who visited Abu Ubaydah and found him weeping. The man said, 'What makes you weep, O Abu Ubaydah?' He said, 'We weep because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day mentioned what Allah would open for the Muslims and grant them, until he mentioned Syria. He said, "If your life is prolonged, O Abu Ubaydah, it is enough for you of servants to have three: a servant to serve you, a servant to travel with you, and a servant to serve your family and look after them. And it is enough for you of mounts to have three: a mount for riding, a mount for your baggage, and a mount for your servant.' Then here I am looking at my house filled with slaves, and looking at my stable filled with mounts and horses. So how shall I meet the Messenger of Allah ﷺ after this? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ advised us, 'The most beloved of you to me and the closest of you to me is the one who meets me in the same state as that in which he left me.'
