machine translationJaʿfar b. Muḥammad narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Ibn Jurayj narrated it from Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad, from his father, from ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from Muʿāwiyah. Al-Thawrī followed him in this, in the narration of Abū Aḥmad al-Zubayrī from him; Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. Miḥraz al-Kūfī said that from Abū Aḥmad. Al-Muqaddamī and al-Faḍl b. Sahl al-Aʿraj contradicted him, and they narrated it from Abū Aḥmad without mentioning ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn in it. The ḥadīth of Ibn Jurayj is closer to being correct.
