حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيِّ قَالَ

قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ: اللَّهُمَّ لَا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَيْتَ، وَلَا مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعْتَ، وَلَا يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ مِنْكَ الْجَدُّ، مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ سَمِعْتُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى هَذَا الْمِنْبَرِ

Translation

Chain of narrators

  2. Usāmah b. Zayd
  3. Muḥammad b. Kaʿb al-Quraẓī

✧ Mu'awiyah said on the pulpit: "O Allah, there is none to withhold what You give, and none to give what You withhold, and the fortune of the fortunate avails nothing against You. Whoever Allah wills good for, He grants him understanding in the religion. I heard these words from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on this pulpit."
