✧ Abdullah bin Maghfal al-Mazni on the Prophet PBUH

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ شُعْبَةَ يَذْكُرُ عَنْ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ قُرَّةَ الْمُزَنِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُهُ يَقْرَأُ - يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ - يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ، فَلَوْلَا أَنْ يَجْتَمِعَ النَّاسُ عَلَيَّ لَحَكَيْتُ لَكُمْ قِرَاءَةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ. قَالَ: قَرَأَ سُورَةَ الْفَتْحِ، قَالَ: لَوْلَا أَنْ يَجْتَمِعَ النَّاسُ عَلَيَّ لَحَكَيْتُ لَكُمْ مَا قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُغَفَّلٍ - كَيْفَ قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

Translation

✧ I heard him reciting — meaning the Prophet ﷺ — on the Day of the Conquest, and were it not that the people would gather around me, I would have imitated for you the recitation of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: He recited Sūrat al-Fatḥ. He said: Were it not that the people would gather around me, I would have imitated for you what ʿAbdullāh — meaning Ibn Mughaffal — said about how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited.
