✧ I used to serve the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and attend to his needs throughout my day, until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the last evening prayer. Then I would sit at his door when he entered his house, saying: “Perhaps some need may arise for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” I would keep hearing the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Glory be to Allah, glory be to Allah, glory be to Allah and with His praise,” until I would grow weary and return, or sleep would overcome me and I would lie down. He said: One day he said to me, seeing my light service and my serving him: “Ask me, O Rabi'a, and I will give you.” He said: I said: “Let me look into my affair, O Messenger of Allah, then I will tell you.” He said: So I thought to myself and I realized that this world is cut off and passing away, and that I have a provision in it that will suffice me and come to me. He said: So I said: “I will ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for my hereafter, for he is from Allah, Mighty and Majestic, in the station that he is in.” He said: So I came to him and he said: “What have you decided, O Rabi'a?” He said: I said: “Yes, O Messenger of Allah, I ask you to intercede for me with your Lord that He may free me from the Fire.” He said: “Who commanded you to ask this, O Rabi'a?” He said: I said: “No, by the One who sent you with the truth, no one commanded me to do it, but when you said: ‘Ask me and I will give you,’ and you were from Allah in the station that you are in, I looked into my affair and I realized that this world is cut off and passing away, and that I have a provision in it that will come to me, so I said: I will ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for my hereafter.” He said: So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was silent for a long time. Then he said to me: “I will do it, so help me against your own self with much prostration.”
