What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationI said to my father: "Which of the two is more authentic?" He said: "The hadith of ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith, because two persons agree on Abū Burdah b. Niyār; one of them fell short and did not mention Jābir, while the other preserved Jābir."

    in مسند أحمد, p. 16682
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationHe was asked about the hadith of Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh, from Abū Burdah, from the Prophet. He said: Bukayr b. al-Ashajj narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith narrated it from Bukayr, who said: I was with Sulaymān b. Yasār and he narrated to us from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Jābir, from his father, from Abū Burdah. Usāmah b. Zayd followed him in this from Bukayr. But al-Layth, Saʿīd b. Abī Ayyūb and Ibn Lahīʿah differed from the two of them, and narrated it from Bukayr, from Sulaymān b. Yasār, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Jābir, from Abū Burdah, and they did not mention Jābir in it. Muslim b. Abī Maryam also narrated it, and there is disagreement about him. Ibn Jurayj said: from Muslim, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Jābir, from a man of the Anṣār, from the Prophet ﷺ. Ḥafṣ b. Maysarah said: from Muslim, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Jābir, from his father. The correct view is the view of al-Layth b. Saʿd and those who followed him from Bukayr.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 16682
