✧ I was a man who had been given such prowess in intercourse with women as no other had been given. When Ramadan entered, I practiced ritual purity (abstained) from my wife until Ramadan ended, fearing that I might have something happen to me at night and then continue in that until the day overtook me while I was unable to desist. While she was serving me, something of her became exposed, so I jumped upon her. When morning came, I went to my people and told them my news, and I said, 'Come with me to the Prophet ﷺ so I may inform him of my affair.' They said, 'No, by Allah, we will not do that. We fear that Qur'an may be revealed concerning us, or the Messenger of Allah ﷺ may say something about us whose shame would remain upon us. But go yourself and do what seems best to you.' He said: So I went out until I came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him my news. He said to me, 'Are you the one who did that?' I said, 'I am the one who did that.' He said, 'Are you the one who did that?' I said, 'I am the one who did that.' He said, 'Are you the one who did that?' I said, 'Yes, here I am. So carry out upon me the judgment of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, for I am patient with it.' He said, 'Free a slave.' I struck the side of my neck with my hand and said, 'No, by the One who sent you with the truth, I have become in the morning possessing nothing other than it.' He said, 'Then fast two months.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, did what befell me befall me except in fasting?' He said, 'Then give charity.' I said, 'By the One who sent you with the truth, we spent this night of ours hungry, having no supper.' He said, 'Go to the collector of the sadaqah of Banu Zurayq and tell him to give it to you, and feed on your behalf from it a wasq of dates to sixty poor people, then use the rest of it for yourself and your family.' He said: So I returned to my people and said, 'I found with you hardship and poor judgment, and I found with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ease and blessing. He has ordered that your sadaqah be given to me, so give it to me.' He said: So they gave it to me.
