✧ Abdullah bin al-Arqam

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ هِشَامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ

أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ مِنْ مَكَّةَ، وَكَانَ يَؤُمُّهُمْ وَيُؤَذِّنُ وَيُقِيمُ، فَأَقَامَ يَوْمًا الصَّلَاةَ، فَقَالَ: لِيُصَلِّ بِكُمْ رَجُلٌ مِنْكُمْ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: إِذَا أَرَادَ أَحَدُكُمْ يَذْهَبَ إِلَى الْخَلَاءِ وَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَلْيَذْهَبْ إِلَى الْخَلَاءِ

Translation

✧ He went out from Makkah, and he used to lead them in prayer and give the call to prayer and the iqamah. One day, when the prayer was about to begin, he said, "Let a man among you lead you in prayer, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: When one of you wants to go to relieve himself and the prayer is commenced, let him go to relieve himself."
