✧ He said to 'Amr b. Sa'id, while he was sending expeditions to Makkah: Give me permission, O commander, to tell you a statement that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made the day after the conquest. My ears heard it, my heart understood it, and my eyes saw him when he said it: He praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: 'Indeed, Allah made Makkah sacred, and people did not make it sacred. It is not lawful for anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day to shed blood in it or to cut down a tree in it. If anyone seeks a concession for fighting the Messenger of Allah in it, say: Indeed, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, permitted His Messenger but did not permit you. He only permitted me in it for a portion of the day, and its sanctity has returned today as it was yesterday. Let the witness convey to the absent.'
