✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ ordered on the day of Badr that twenty-four men from the leaders of Quraysh be thrown into one of the foul, stinking pits of Badr. When he gained victory over a people, he would stay in the open space for three nights. On the third day at Badr, he ordered his mount to be brought and its saddle fastened. Then he walked, and his companions followed him. They said: We think he is only going to relieve himself, until he stood at the edge of the well. He began calling them by their names and the names of their fathers: 'O so-and-so son of so-and-so, O so-and-so son of so-and-so, would it please you that you had obeyed God and His Messenger? We have found what our Lord promised us to be true. Have you found what your Lord promised you to be true?' 'Umar said: 'O Messenger of God, why do you speak to bodies that have no souls?' He said: 'By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, you are not more able to hear what I say than they are.' Qatada said: God brought them back to life so that He made them hear his words as a rebuke, belittlement, humiliation, regret, and remorse.
