حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ مُطَرِّفِ بْنِعَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا انْتَهَى إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: وَقَالَ وَكِيعٌ مَرَّةً: إِنَّهُ انْتَهَى إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَقْرَأُ: أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ حَتَّى زُرْتُمُ الْمَقَابِرَ. قَالَ: يَقُولُ ابْنُ آدَمَ: مَالِي مَالِي، وَهَلْ لَكَ مِنْ مَالِكَ إِلَّا مَا تَصَدَّقْتَ فَأَمْضَيْتَ، أَوْ لَبِسْتَ فَأَبْلَيْتَ، أَوْ أَكَلْتَ فَأَفْنَيْتَ ؟

Translation

✧ A man came to the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was saying—and Wakīʿ once said: he came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was reciting: "Competition for more distracts you, until you visit the graves." He said: The son of Adam says, "My wealth, my wealth," but do you have any of your wealth except what you gave in charity and spent, or wore and wore out, or ate and consumed?
