حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ وَحَجَّاجٌ قَالَحَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ، يَقُولُ ابْنُ آدَمَ: مَالِي مَالِي، وَمَا لَكَ مِنْ مَالِكَ إِلَّا مَا أَكَلْتَ فَأَفْنَيْتَ، أَوْ لَبِسْتَ فَأَبْلَيْتَ، أَوْ تَصَدَّقْتَ فَأَمْضَيْتَ

✧ I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was saying: "Competition for more distracts you." The son of Adam says, "My wealth, my wealth," but you have no wealth except what you ate and consumed, or wore and wore out, or gave in charity and spent.
