حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَّرَهُ عَلَى سَرِيَّةٍ فَخَرَجْتُ فِيهَا فَقَالَ: إِنْ أَخَذْتُمْ فُلَانًا فَأَحْرِقُوهُ بِالنَّارِ. فَلَمَّا وَلَّيْتُ نَادَانِي، فَقَالَ: إِنْ أَخَذْتُمُوهُ فَاقْتُلُوهُ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يُعَذِّبُ بِالنَّارِ إِلَّا رَبُّ النَّارِ.

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ appointed him over a military expedition, and I went out in it. He said: 'If you seize so-and-so, burn him with fire.' When I turned away, he called me and said: 'If you seize him, kill him, for no one punishes with fire except the Lord of Fire.'
