✧ I was with my father, a young man, looking at the Messenger of God ﷺ as he followed the tribes, and behind him was a cross-eyed, handsome man with long hair. The Messenger of God ﷺ would stop at a tribe and say: 'O Banu so-and-so, I am the Messenger of God to you, commanding you to worship God and not associate anything with Him, and to believe me and protect me until I convey what God has sent me with.' When the Messenger of God ﷺ finished his speech, the other man from behind him would say: 'O Banu so-and-so, this man wants you to strip off al-Lat and al-ʿUzza and your allies from the tribe of Banu Malik ibn Uqaysh to what he has brought of innovation and misguidance. So do not listen to him and do not follow him.' I said to my father: 'Who is this?' He said: 'His uncle Abu Lahab.'
