✧ We used to engage in muḥāqalah with land during the time of the Messenger of God ﷺ, leasing it for a third, a quarter, and specified food. One day a man from my paternal uncles came to us and said: The Messenger of God ﷺ forbade us from a matter that was beneficial to us, but obedience to God and His Messenger is more beneficial for us. He forbade us from muḥāqalah with land, leasing it for a third, a quarter, and specified food, and he commanded the owner of the land to cultivate it himself or have it cultivated, and he disliked leasing it and anything other than that.
