✧ Ka'b said: "I was never in a military campaign with easier provisions for riding animals and expenses than in that campaign." He said: "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out, I said: 'I will prepare tomorrow, then catch up with him.' I began my preparations, but evening came and I had not finished. I said: 'I will continue my preparations tomorrow; the people are still near, then I will catch up with them.' Evening came and I had not finished. When the third day came, I began my preparations, but evening came and I had not finished. I said: 'Alas! The people have traveled for three days,' so I stayed behind. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived, people began making excuses to him. I came and stood before him and said: 'I was never in a military campaign with easier provisions for riding animals and expenses than in this campaign.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned away from me and ordered the people not to speak to us. Our wives were ordered to move away from us." He said: "One day I climbed over a wall, and there I was with Jabir b. 'Abd Allah. I said: 'O Jabir, I adjure you by Allah, do you know that I ever betrayed Allah and His Messenger?'" He said: "He remained silent and did not speak to me." He said: "While I was one day, suddenly I heard a man on the high ground saying: 'Ka'b! Ka'b!' until he came close to me and said: 'Give Ka'b good news.'"
