حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ الصَّيْقَلِ عَنْ قُثَمِ بْنِ تَمَّامٍ أَوْ تَمَّامِ بْنِ قُثَمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
أَتَيْنَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: مَا بَالُكُمْ تَأْتُونِي قُلْحًا لَا تَسَوَّكُونَ ؟ لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَفَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمُ السِّوَاكَ كَمَا فَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْوُضُوءَ
Translation

✧ We came to the Prophet ﷺ and he said, "Why do you come to me with dirty mouths? Had it not been difficult for my ummah, I would have made it obligatory for them to use the siwak (tooth stick) just as I have made it obligatory for them to perform ablution (wudu)."
