✧ "I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and fought with him. I was hit in the back, and on that day people were killing until they even killed children. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Why do people go to such an extreme in killing today that they even kill children?' A man said, 'O Messenger of Allah! They are the children of the polytheists.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Indeed, the best of you are the sons of the polytheists.' Then he said, 'Do not kill children, do not kill children.' He said, 'Every child is born on the Fitrah (innate nature) until his tongue expresses itself, and his parents make him a Jew or a Christian.'"

machine translationIt is a well-known, established ḥadīth, though there is some concern about it, because ʿAlī b. al-Madīnī, Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn, Abū ʿAbdillāh b. Mandah, Abū Dāwūd and others denied that al-Ḥasan heard anything from al-Aswad.
