✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a detachment on the day of Hunayn and they fought against the polytheists until they killed them and their descendants. When they returned, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked them, "What made you kill their descendants?" They replied, "O Messenger of Allah, they were the children of the polytheists." He said, "But are your children any different? By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, every child is born on the Fitrah (natural inclination towards monotheism) until his tongue expresses it."

machine translationIt is a well-known, established ḥadīth, though there is some concern about it, because ʿAlī b. al-Madīnī, Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn, Abū ʿAbdillāh b. Mandah, Abū Dāwūd and others denied that al-Ḥasan heard anything from al-Aswad.
