✧ There was a man among the Emigrants called Abd al-Rahman b. Safwan, and he had excellent standing in Islam and was a friend of al-Abbas. On the day of the conquest of Makkah, he brought his father to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of God, pledge allegiance to him upon hijrah.' He refused and said: 'There is no hijrah.' He went to al-Abbas, who was at the watering place, and said: 'O Abu al-Fadl, I brought my father to the Messenger of God ﷺ to pledge allegiance to him upon hijrah, but he refused.' He said: Al-Abbas stood up with him, wearing no cloak, and said: 'O Messenger of God, you know what is between me and so-and-so. He brought you his father to pledge allegiance to him upon hijrah, and you refused.' The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'There is no hijrah.' Al-Abbas said: 'I adjure you, pledge allegiance to him.' He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ stretched out his hand and said: 'Here, I have fulfilled my uncle's oath, but there is no hijrah.'
