✧ I said to 'Abd al-Rahman b. Khunbash al-Tamimi, who was an old man: Did you meet the Messenger of God ﷺ? He said: Yes. I said: How did the Messenger of God ﷺ act on the night when the devils plotted against him? He said: That night the devils came down upon the Messenger of God ﷺ from the valleys and mountain passes, and among them was a devil with a flame of fire in his hand, intending to burn the face of the Messenger of God ﷺ with it. Then Gabriel ﷺ descended to him and said: O Muhammad, say. He said: What should I say? He said: Say: I seek refuge in the perfect words of God from the evil of what He has created, and scattered, and brought forth; and from the evil of what descends from the sky, and from the evil of what ascends in it; and from the evil of the trials of the night and the day, and from the evil of every night-comer except a night-comer who comes with good, O Most Merciful. He said: Then their fire was extinguished, and God, Blessed and Exalted, defeated them.
