✧ A man asked 'Abd al-Rahman b. Khunbash: How did the Messenger of God ﷺ act when the devils plotted against him? He said: The devils came to the Messenger of God ﷺ from the valleys and descended upon him from the mountains, and among them was a devil with a flame of fire, intending to burn the Messenger of God ﷺ with it. He said: So he was terrified—Ja'far said: I think he said: He began to retreat—He said: And Gabriel ﷺ came and said: O Muhammad, say. He said: What should I say? He said: Say: I seek refuge in the perfect words of God, which neither a righteous person nor a wicked person can surpass, from the evil of what He has created, and scattered, and brought forth; and from the evil of what descends from the sky, and from the evil of what ascends in it; and from the evil of what He has scattered in the earth, and from the evil of what comes out of it; and from the evil of the trials of the night and the day, and from the evil of every night-comer except a night-comer who comes with good, O Most Merciful. So the fire of the devils was extinguished, and God, Mighty and Majestic, defeated them.
